So long and thanks for everything
Posted by Aaron Gilmore on December 13th, 2011Well it was confirmed over the weekend that I have lost my seat in Parliament following the counting of special votes. The team in Christchurch East acheived a great 46.1% of the Party Vote which was inexcess of our goal locally and if everyone in NZ had done close to the same I’d would be elected! The Electorate is also very likely to undergo a major boundary change for the 2014 election that may make the seat even more favourable and an easier local contest with the Electorate MP who has been there for nigh on 20 years saying publically if that happens she will retire. However, I lost the local personal vote by some 5,000 against her this time after a good contest as not everyone who voted National voted for me. As a result I have missed out from being elected by one place being effectively 60th on the National Party list due to people below me on the list that won their local seats. That also means I am next cab off the rank in the event of a retirement from Parliament during this term. I would like to thank everyone that has helped me to date and to my amazing staff and volunteers and to all the people I have met over the past three years. The journey has not ended but for the next wee while it is taking a different approach and an extend tea break! My office will close for effectively good before Xmas and after that if you would like to get hold of me my cell 027 210 30 20 still works or you can still email me via aaron.gilmore@national.org.nz
Hei Konei ra and keep smiling everyone!
Aaron
