Yesterday was the last day of the School Holidays. It is has been great to have the kids around and have the chance to take them to different things including a few days in the snow, at all the local places and playing board games at home. It has also helped in combining with the work around the Electorate campaigning. I have the best 3 volunteers in the world - two are under 6 but are 100% dedicated to help dad, including offerring to help come doorknocking, while Jenny as a former Beehive Ministerial advisor is priceless.  I have a brillant family.  More than I can say for my own recent performances for my brothers indoor cricket team.  Though my comical display got me 3 more volunteers from his team!

It struck me over the last two weeks that few dads seem to have a chance to spend enough time with their kids in the holidays and this is a shame. Adding more costs on businesses like Labour’s ridiculous flexible hours rules or just simply granting more holidays with won’t fix that, we need to get wealthier and allow parents to have choices.  What is even worse was the recent comments from Labour’s leader saying National MPs who spend time with their families in the holidays work short weeks.  Children are our future. Whitney was right - we need to teach them well and let them show the way. The best teachers in the holidays are parents.

Parents that I have spoken too with the kids over the break (at the park, our local cafes etc) are worried about their jobs, their friends and family who are moving to Aussie and want a Govt that gives them the ability to choose how they work, Labours working for families doesn’t do this alone, and they all want to be as weathy as  their friends in Australia again.
