Least we forget
Posted by Aaron Gilmore on May 2nd, 2008On ANZAC day I attended the ceremony at the New Brighton war memorial along with my Electorate Chair. This was the first time in 15 years that I have been in Christchurch on ANZAC day. My grandfather was a long time member of the New Brighton RSA and I remember with fondness attending these ceremonies when younger.
But this year I was humbled by the volume of people attending at well over 1,000. It was pleasing to see so many young children from the local scout group and girl guides. My own kids will be old enough to understand and be there next year. I was also honoured to be able to wear with pride my families medals in rememberance of those in my family that served our country so bravely.
