Eastern Christchurch is one of the best places in the world in my view – but having been born and raised there I am a little bit biased!

The area stretches from the Waimakirri River in the north, down to the Avon Estuary in the south and the fertile market gardens of Marshlands in the west, through to the best bit of surf coastline in the South Island along Pegasus Bay.

Within the region lies a large amount of recreational and natural areas. With 1,000 hectares of forestry in the north and centre of the Electorate visited by nearly 1 million visitors annually, it is a mecca for runners, cyclists and people from across Canterbury just wanting to relax.

Travis Wetland Reserve is a major wetland area along with the Bexley Wetland Reserve and the Brooklands lagoon area.  With the Avon River running through it the Electorate has plenty to offer people.  It has more golf courses than any other urban electorate in New Zealand, 5 Surf Clubs, and the QEII Park in the middle is a world class sporting venue.

We are also home to the recent captains of both our All Blacks rugby and Silver Ferns netball teams.

Plus we have the largest proportion of tradesmen in New Zealand and plenty of small businesses.

The area is also diverse in terms of demographics with some of the poorest parts of New Zealand in places like Aranui along with some of the wealthiest new suburbs like Waimairi Beach.

As a result, the area has an average income but with a high proportion of young people.  It also attracts a high proportion of migrants from the UK and with over 4,500 more homes planned to be built over the next 20 years, it is a relatively fast growing area.

And with wonderful primary schools and great local amenities the electorate is a fantastic place to raise a family or retire.

It is truly a great place to live and it is where I am proud to call home.
